Tom Musselwhite

Senior Landscape Designer
Project Management

Tom's unique background as a landscape professional started early. Growing up with a father who was a sculptor, artist, and university design instructor fueled his interest in design, and he went on to study and work in the natural environs of Western Carolina University in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. This led to a lifelong passion for landscaping that took him first to Seattle, and then on to Japan for two years. The design studio at the University of Osaka Prefecture and an apprenticeship with a Japanese gardener taught him skills he continues to use today. Upon returning to Seattle, horticultural studies at Edmonds Community College furthered his experiences. Tom also credits outdoor pursuits as contributing to his natural designs. In 1991, Tom founded Pacific Garden Design in Spokane, committed to bringing together a team of professionals to serve the community with high quality landscapes that marry function and creativity.

Tim Paulson

Maintenance Supervisor

Tim has run the landscape maintenance division at Pacific Garden design since 2010. Prior to that, he managed maintenance for landscaping companies in Arizona and Northern California. Tim ensures that our plant care and lawn care are up to the highest standards, and stays informed about innovations and improvements in the industry. Thanks to his three kids, Tim also has almost two decades of experience coaching youth wrestling, baseball, and football, including state championships in California and Washington. He loves all the outdoor activities Spokane has to offer, especially hunting and fishing with his family.

Jack Foster

Project Management

Jack has spent his entire professional career in the landscape industry in one capacity or another. After years working on the supplier side of things, Jack moved to landscape construction, joining Pacific Garden Design in 2012. He wears many hats here, but his main responsibilities are estimating and project management. He's equally likely to be running a spreadsheet in the office or a skid steer in the field. Jack originally hails from Medford, Oregon, making him the only native Northwesterner in the office.

Katy Manis

Landscape Designer

Katy never planned to be a landscape designer, but after discovering the power that plants have on our lives while pursuing a BA in Environmental Studies at Amherst College, she went on to get an MA in Landscape Design at the Conway School. After spending her life variously in Japan, North Carolina, North Idaho, San Diego, Western Massachusetts, and San Francisco, Katy has settled down in Spokane, joining Pacific Garden Design in 2016. She has a special interest in sustainable, low-impact design; xeriscaping; and using native plants in the landscape. Her designs focus on the intersection between man-made and natural spaces, striving for a landscape that serves both.
